I bought one today for next to nothing in a pretty sorry state, but I love it and it seems salvageable. I’m just curious about when it might be from…it’s definitely vintage, maybe 50′s or 60′s or 70′s? I am clearly a complete layman, so any hints would be helpful. Internet searches of a trillion variations on vintage/huffy/wildwood/ bicycle have yielded nothing. Any ideas?
On Huffy bikes up to about 1980 the month and year were stamped somewhere on the frame, usually on or near the bottom bracket (crank). For example, if you see 5-78 the bike was made in May 1978. If I recall, Huffy used the "Wildwood" name for a lightweight 3 speed, then recycled it for an all terrain bike for a short time.
Diamondback still has their own Wildwood comfort bike in production.
In the 50s and through the early 60s, Huffy was the Huffman Bicycle Company and would be labeled as such.
Although the bike is old I wouldn’t call it vintage, and unfortunately it is definitely not collectable.
